War of Words

On Friday, September 26, you’re invited to battle it out spoken-word style for a $50 cash prize in the latest OneWord Poetry Slam.

In this competition, wordsmiths will be given a microphone, a live audience and two minutes to impress five randomly selected judges.

Rachel Morley of the Writing and Society Research Group, UWS, will host and there will be three special guest artists on the night - spoken word artist, rhymer, actor and freestyle MC, Bravo Child; performance poet and puppet master, Mize; and original singer/songwriter Ashley Kerr, who was the winner of the August OneRhythm band slam.

The only rule for the evening: Slam contestants are to perform an original piece, using no props.

The New Writers Group Inc will also name a literary prize winner and runner-up winner on the night.

The slam will be held at the Mars Hill Cafe, 331 Church Street, Parramatta.
Entry is $5 for contestants, and free for audience members.
Register from 7.30pm for an 8pm start.

Come to One Word, a terrific spoken word night on Friday 27 July around 8.30 pm and be sure to be entertained! You can perform or you can just listen. Poetry, short stories, songs, lyrics, works by other authors will be performed on the night. 331 Church St Parramatta at Mars Hill Cafe, opposite Brand Smart, just before the river.

One Word, Spoken Word open mic night will be on Friday 29 June 2007. Come along to be entertained or to entertain!!! You can perform your original work or your favourite pieces of writing by others, or just come along to listen. Everyone is welcome!!!
